Homework and Recording Links

After each session, your homework and the recording link will be posted here.

Session 1: Ensure Your Target Audience Wants Your Product

Sept. 9, Tues., 1:00-2:00 PST/4:00-5:00 EST

Too many people have garages full of unsold product. Even if your product is electronic, you want to uncover the needs of your target market — what they want and will pay for. You don’t want to waste time producing something no one buys. This first step is the foundation on which successful products are built.

Download or watch the recording.

If it doesn’t play in Windows Media Player try Quicktime.

  • Write a description of your target market
    Who are they?
What does my target market want help with? What is their pain? (Interview a few key contacts w/in this target market)
    • Ask some of your target market:
What are the work issues that are most troubling to you now?
What have you tried that has worked a bit?
What have you tried that hasn’t worked?
If you could learn how to resolve issues like this, what would be the best way to learn new methods? (In-person course, coaching, just-in-time video lessons, short reading, audio to listen while commuting/working out)
What would you spend to have useful ideas on how to reduce this issue from haunting you?
  • Do a competitive analysis.

Please send your responses — even if they are brief — to your buddy by the date you agreed on, and to me by noon Monday. I will comment on what I think will be relevant to the others, so your homework may or may not get my comments.

Session 2: Plan Your Product

Sept. 16, Tues. 1:00-2:00 PST/4:00-5:00 EST

We’ll go through the process of planning what you’ll create so you ensure you include what’s important to potential buyers. You’ll have a step-by-step roadmap to implement in week 3.

Download or watch the recording.

  • 1. Outline your product
    • Write how you would explore the issue
    • Approach it from what the learner wants
    • Address their pain
  • 2. Flesh it out
    • Write a sentence or two describing what you’d cover in each section/sub-section

  • 3. Integrate previous work
    • Use previous slides, scripts, articles, blog postings
  • Submit your best shot to your buddy
  • Review your buddy’s homework and give them constructive feedback.

Session 3: Record Your Product

Sept. 23, Tues., 1:00-2:00 PST/4:00-5:00 EST

We’ll walk through what you need to record your product. You’ll see how you can redeploy elements of previous work so this step will be easier than you think. Then this week you’ll create your product and get feedback. (Plan an extra hour to your homework allotment so you can review your learning buddy’s output.)

Download or watch the recording.

  • Refine your outline and create/revise any slides
  • Record
  • Review your buddy’s homework and give her constructive feedback.

Session 4: Create Your Marketing Plan

Sept. 30, Tues., 1:00-2:00 PST/4:00-5:00 EST

Now you’ve created your product, how are you going to sell it? Even the most brilliant products languish if they aren’t promoted. We’ll cover key elements of your marketing/sales plan.

Download or watch the recording.

    • Write compelling ad copy to sell your new product
    • Put this copy on your website
    • Publicize your new product in/on your ezine, Twitter, FB, LI pages
    • Call select past clients to discuss how this would be helpful to them
    • Pre-sell it as followup/reinforcement and to past clients
    • Call colleagues who have complementary (not competitive) topics to joint venture with them to sell it — especially if they have no product.
    • Design some bundles incorporating your new product
    • Review your buddy’s homework and give them constructive feedback.
